MetaTrader 5 (MT5) Guide

MetaTrader 5 (MT5) is the core platform used to run Lanami tools.

• MT5 Desktop is where you install indicators and run expert advisors (automation).
• MT5 Mobile is primarily used for monitoring and receiving push notifications.

If you plan to use the Lanami Expert Advisor, MT5 Desktop is required because automated trading runs inside the desktop terminal.

MT5 Desktop

• Install indicators and templates
• Run Expert Advisors (EAs)
• Configure alerts, notifications, and trading settings
• Required for automation

MT5 Mobile

• View charts and monitor positions
• Receive push notifications
• Not designed to run EAs continuously

A common mistake is expecting the mobile app to replace the desktop terminal for automation. For EAs, the desktop terminal must remain running (often on a VPS).

For reliable operation, MT5 should run on a stable computer or VPS with:

• modern CPU
• sufficient RAM to keep MT5 responsive
• stable internet connection

If you use the EA, the platform should remain online during trading hours. For 24/7 markets, a VPS is recommended to reduce downtime risk.

Lanami Indicator

• Shows signals on chart
• Sends alerts (desktop / mobile push / Telegram if configured)
• You manually decide and execute trades

Lanami Expert Advisor

• Monitors markets continuously
• Executes trades automatically based on the same breakout logic
• Requires MT5 Desktop to remain running

Both products use a license system, and both depend on correct MT5 settings to operate smoothly.

Before troubleshooting anything, verify these MT5 settings:

For indicators (alerts):

• Enable notifications if you want mobile push alerts
• Confirm MT5 is connected and receiving ticks

For EAs (automation):

• Enable algorithmic trading / auto-trading
• Allow the EA to trade in the EA settings panel
• Confirm the EA shows a “smiley” / active status (depending on your MT5 theme)
• Ensure the chart has the EA attached and the symbol/timeframe is correct

Most “it doesn’t work” issues are caused by disabled trading permissions or missing notifications setup.

If you want MT5 push notifications:

• Install MT5 Mobile on your phone
• Link your MT5 Mobile to your MT5 Desktop (using the platform’s notification settings)
• Send a test notification to confirm delivery

Push notifications are ideal for indicator alerts when you are away from your desk.

No alerts

• Check MT5 is connected (bottom-right connection status)
• Confirm alerts are enabled in indicator settings
• If using mobile notifications: confirm you successfully sent a test push

EA not trading

• Auto-trading/algo trading is disabled
• Trading is not allowed in the EA settings
• Broker/account restrictions (e.g., symbol not tradable, market closed)
• EA is attached to the wrong chart or timeframe

EA trades, but results differ

• Spread and execution conditions differ from what you expected
• Volatility conditions changed
• Slippage is occurring (especially on high-volatility symbols)

Indicator loads but looks wrong

• Wrong timeframe
• Chart scaling is off
• Template not applied (if you use templates)
